How does simplification work?
Divide numerator and denominator by their GCD: 4/8 → 1/2 because GCD(4,8)=4.
What about mixed numbers?
Convert first: 1½ = 3/2. Multiply the whole part by the denominator and add the numerator.
Why can't the denominator be zero?
Division by zero is undefined — a fraction's denominator states how many parts the whole splits into, and zero parts is meaningless.
What is an improper fraction?
